From a Living Room
to a Community Hub
Our journey began in a brother's living room in East London. Having returned from Yemen after studying in Dammaj, he began teaching Qur'ān and beneficial Islamic knowledge to local brothers.
What started as a small gathering soon grew into a regular circle of learning, as more people attended to strengthen their faith and understanding of Islam. The living room quickly became a centre of knowledge, brotherhood, and spiritual growth.
As attendance increased, the need for a dedicated space became clear. In 2014, Masjid Uthman was established in a small storage unit in Barking. Despite its humble size, Allāh placed immense barakah in the masjid.
- Brothers memorised the Qur'ān and strengthened their Aqīdah
- Students began studying Arabic and Islamic sciences
- Many travelled to Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Egypt to seek knowledge
- Students returned to the UK to teach and continue the da'wah
- Non-Muslims embraced Islam through the clarity of the message
This small space became a foundation for long-term community development and Islamic learning.
As the community continued to grow, the storage unit could no longer accommodate the increasing number of attendees. In 2019, we moved to a larger rented centre where a children's madrasah was established.
Alhamdulillāh:
- Children learned to recite and memorise the Qur'ān
- Families benefitted from guidance and support
- Parents became more engaged in their children's Islamic development
- The community strengthened through regular classes and gatherings
This marked an important stage in expanding educational and family-focused initiatives.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, physical activities were temporarily halted, and our da'wah transitioned online. Allāh blessed this transition, and our reach expanded far beyond East London.
- Madrasatuna Telegram grew to over 20,000+ subscribers
- YouTube content reached 35,000+ followers worldwide
- Classes, reminders, and translations reached a global audience
- Students from different countries began benefiting from lessons
What began in a living room now reached learners across the world.
Recognising the continued growth and the need for a permanent centre, the project evolved into Masjid As-Sahabah, inspired by the noble companions of the Prophet ﷺ.

Masjid As-Sahabah represents the next stage of this journey — working towards establishing a permanent masjid and community hub for East London.

Our mission is to establish a centre that nurtures faith, knowledge, and community well-being — grounded upon the Qur'ān, the Sunnah, and the understanding of the early Muslims.
Building upon over a decade of da'wah and community work, Masjid As-Sahabah aims to provide a stable and accessible environment for Islamic education and worship.
The name reflects our commitment to following the example of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ — the best generation of this Ummah.

By naming the masjid after the companions, we aim to create a space that reflects their values of sincerity, knowledge, humility, and service to the community.
To establish a permanent masjid in East London that serves as:
- A place of worship
- A centre of knowledge
- A hub for community unity
- A foundation for future generations
From a living room in 2010 to a growing community today, Masjid As-Sahabah continues its journey — seeking to serve the community and spread beneficial knowledge for generations to come.
